Was having one of those emotional days where you're not sure whether to laugh or cry and you feel a bit uneasy. I was watching Animal Park and this deer was having awful trouble giving birth. They finally pulled the calf out, which was back to front, but it was greyish with what they called 'dead eyes'. It lay there lifeless and lolling, and covered in splungey mucus, and the mother had not yet come round from her sadation. The vet swung the calf about, massaged its chest and tried to get its heart beating but nothing happened. Then she gave it the kiss of life, and as she blew her own air into its lungs, the calf took its first breath. Oh how I did cry. It was just so amazing how it was still and dead one moment and then suddenly it was a breathing, surviving being the next. And it lay there, inhaling the fresh Longleat air until it had the strength and awareness to sit up and take a look around.
I don't think this would have affected me like this normally, but I was having one of those days.
At home at the mo. First term was good. Back to Falmouth on Saturday. I'll be in touch x
